| What's in a Name? Lots of people are curious about the name "Jakfish" and where it comes from. Here's the real story from the Owner of Jakfish, Stephanie Teleen: Remember what life was like before pregnancy and kids? I do. Although I really wanted kids, I had a very full life before I had them (it was just differently full than it is now). When I got pregnant, I felt like the maternity industry forgot about my interests and attempted to label me as "mama" this, or "pregnancy" that, or "bump" whatever. They clearly didn't recognize that I was an individual defined by a lot more than my pregnancy status. When I started my business I wanted to appeal to women like me - active women with a life who (happily) happened to be pregnant. After my kids were born, we had only one cd that they liked. Unfortunately, most songs on it were extremely annoying to all adult ears, with the exception of one song named Jakfish. As a result, we listened to that song over and over again. When it came to naming my business, I wanted the name to be fun and irreverent and NOT related to maternity or pregnancy. That's when the song Jakfish popped in to my head (in reality, there were very few moments when the song was not in my head). So that's what Jakfish stand for: fun, irreverent & playful active clothing. That's the real story. |
